Long Beach State went an impressive 8-1 on Sunday in Las Vegas, concluding what was a highly successful opening tournament for the Beach. LBSU went a combined 24-5 across the three-day event, hosted by UNLV.
LAS VEGAS – Long Beach State concluded an impressive team performance on Sunday at the UNLV Fall Invitational as the Beach went a combined 8-1 on the final day. Three players finished off unbeaten singles runs, as Emma Bardet, Zara Lennon and Sadaf Sadeghvaziri each improved to 3-0 in their singles draws. The doubles pair of Lennon and Sadeghvaziri also won its match to give both players a perfect 5-0 record for the weekend.
Bardet was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 winner in flight two, but did not go head-to-head with Lennon in the final, as the draw was restructured to avoid LBSU teammates from playing one another. Lennon was dominant in her final match, not dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win. Sadeghvaziri was playing in flight three, where she picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
In the top flight, Wiktoria Rutkowska won the third-place match in comeback fashion, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. In the consolation final of flight one, Natalia Munoz picked up a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win to close her weekend with a victory.
The Beach went 3-0 in doubles action on Sunday with Lennon/Sadeghvaziri leading the way with their flight two doubles title. In the top flight, Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda picked up an 8-1 victory while Rutkowska/Bardet finished up with an 8-6 win.
Long Beach State will be back in action Oct. 11-13 at Rhodes Tennis Center, hosting the Beach Tennis Tournament.
