Long Beach State Opens Big West Conference Action Against Cal Poly, No. 11 Hawaii
Long Beach State women's volleyball kicks off Big West Conference play this week as the Beach take on Cal Poly on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m., in San Luis Obispo, before coming home to host No. 11 Hawaii on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid.

About The Beach
• Long Beach State is looking to snap a four-match losing streak as the Beach wrapped up the preseason with a 3-9 overall record.
• The Beach struggled, going 0-3, at the USD Invitational last weekend suffering setbacks to San Diego State (3-1), No. 20 USC (3-0), and San Diego (3-0).
• Kashauna Williams leads Long Beach State offensively with 4.06 kills per set on .210 hitting. She also adds 0.87 digs and 0.45 blocks per set.Â
• Senior libero Hailey Harward paces the Beach in the backrow with 3.83 digs per set. She has accumulated 1,324 career digs to rank sixth all-time at Long Beach State. She is just 11 digs away from breaking into the top 5.
• Harward has amassed 102 service aces in her career and is just 13 shy of breaking into the Long Beach State career record book.
• Setters Tia Chavira and Carly Aigner-Swesey have both seen action on the court this season as Chavira leads the way with 8.90 assists per set, while Aigner-Swesey averages 8.07.
• At the net, Kjersti Norveel and Xue led the way with 1.26 and 0.83 blocks per set, respectively.
• Xue has amassed 340 career block assists and sits in ninth in the Long Beach State career record book.
• The Beach were chosen to finish fifth in the Big West Preseason Coaches Poll behind Cal Poly, Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Irvine, respectively.
Scouting The Mustangs
Cal Poly closed out the preseason with a 7-5 record after winning four of its last five matches. The Mustangs picked up wins over Pepperdine (3-2), No. 16 Utah (3-2), Northern Colorado (3-2), and Oregon State (3-1).Â
The Mustangs are under new leadership as head coach Caroline Walters was elevated from associate head coach over the summer.Â
Maia Dvoracek is the Mustangs' leading scorer as she averages 3.42 kills per set, while hitting .202. She also contributes 2.21 digs per set, while leading the team with 35 service aces.Â
Avalon DeNeccochea is the team's setter with 8.08 assists per set. She also adds 1.52 digs per set and 1.15 kills per set.
Defensively for Cal Poly, Mika Dickson (2.94 digs per set) and Meredith Phillips (1.15 blocks per set) lead the squad.
The Series: LBSU vs. Cal Poly
Long Beach State leads the all-time series with Cal Poly as the Beach own a 45-23 overall record. However, the Mustangs have won the last four meetings as LBSU is looking for its first win over Cal Poly since 2016.
Scouting The Rainbow Wahine
No. 11 Hawaii comes into the match against Long Beach State with a 10-1 overall record. The Rainbow Wahine moved up to 11 in the national rankings after breezing through the preseason with their only loss coming to No. 5 Baylor in Waco, Texas.
Hawaii's Jolie Rasmussen is the team's leading scorer with 3.46 kills per set while hitting just under .300.Â
As a team, Hawaii is hitting .260 thanks to setters Norene Iosia (5.36 assists per set) and Bailey Choy (5.20 assists per set).
On the defensive end, Riley Wagoner (2.35 digs per set), Choy (2.34 digs per set), and Brooke Van Sickle (2.33 digs per set) pace the backrow, while Amber Igiede (1.38 blocks per set) and Skyler Williams (1.17 blocks per set) secure the net.
The Series: LBSU vs. Hawaii
Long Beach State and Hawaii will meet for the 55th time in program history. LBSU leads the all-time series 32-21-1, but Hawaii has won the last five contests. The Beach are looking for their first win over the Rainbow Wahine since 2016.

Hailey Harward has amassed 180 digs this season to average 3.83 digs per set. She sits in sixth place after bringing her career-total to 1,324 surpassing Harward is now just 11 digs shy of breaking into the top 5.

Senior middle blocker YiZhi Xue is in ninth place all-time at the Beach with 340 block assists. She is second on the team with 39 total blocks for an average of 0.83 blocks per set.
