High-Scoring Start For Men’s Water Polo At Air Force Invitational

Long Beach State picks up wins against Chapman and Brown, combining for 43 goals.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- No. 9 Long Beach State went unbeaten in the first day for a third consecutive tournament picking up a pair of wins against Chapman and Brown at the Air Force Tournament hosted by the academy.

Long Beach State opened the tournament with a comfortable 25-9 win over Chapman. After battling to a first quarter 4-4 tie, the Beach dominated the last three quarters outscoring the Panthers 21-5.

Junior Nemanja Bakic had a huge performance scoring a game high five goals on seven attempts. Sophomores Matt Morris and Theodoros Pateros both scored three goals. Also on the score sheet with two goals each are Quinten Osborne, Elijah Graves, Alessio Brunochelli, Garrett Zaan, Austin Stewart and Joshua Spence. Eduardo Wainberg and Curtis Casper also contributed one goal for the win over Chapman.

Marwan Darwish established himself in the goalie position with 14 total saves giving the Beach their seventh win of the season.

Long Beach State picked up another win against Brown, beating the Bears 18-13. The Beach and Brown went back and forth throughout the first three quarters until Long Beach ran away with the game outscoring Brown 4-0 in the fourth quarter.

Senior Austin Stewart (6 goals) and Bakic (4 goals) controlled the game with a total of 10 goals between the two. Morris and Osborne both contributed two goals along with a goal each from Jonathan Wong, Wainberg, Graves and Zaan.

Long Beach State has two more matches Sunday. The day opens against host Air Force at 9:30 a.m. and Lindenwood at 1:00 p.m. The Air Force game will be streamed live on https://www.youtube.com/c/AirForceFalcons. Live Stats for both games will also be available on https://www.thefosh.net.
