Beach Water Polo Closes Inland Empire Classic With Another 3-1 Tournament

Long Beach State suffers loss against Pepperdine but celebrates victory against Air Force.
REDLANDS, Calif. — After their comeback against No. 8 Pepperdine came up just short, Long Beach State Men's Water Polo rebounded with a 17-8 victory over Air Force to close the Inland Empire Classic.
No. 7 Long Beach State (6-2) nearly pulled off an impressive comeback to defeat the Waves (6-1). Trailing by three at halftime after a five-goal output from Pepperdine in the second quarter, the Beach cut the lead to one at 8-7 after three. Austin Stewart's fourth-quarter goal tied the game at eight all, but Pepperdine came away with the final two goals to take the win 10-8.
The Beach quickly bounced back in their final game in Redlands against Air Force (5-3). A penalty goal from Stewart gave Long Beach State a 3-2 lead after one, and the Beach was able to push that edge to 6-3 before halftime.
Continuing to pour it on, Long Beach State scored six goals in the third quarter before adding five in the fourth to cruise to the win, finishing 3-1 for the second consecutive tournament.
A senior, Stewart continued to lead the Beach, scoring five goals on the day and increasing his team lead on the season to 24 goals in eight games played.
The Beach will travel to face No. 1 USC midweek on Sunday, September 15 before closing out their week with a trip to the Air Force Tournament hosted in Colorado Springs by the Falcons.
