USC pulled away in the second quarter after a strong start for the Beach.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. —No. 9 Long Beach State had their attempt to upset the Trojans but fell, 13-6. The Beach and Trojans remained close throughout the first quarter before the Trojans took over the rest of the game.
Junior Nemanja Bakic led the Beach with four goals in his first appearance this season. Sophomore Theodoros Pateros and Senior Johnathan Wong both contributed a goal as well but it wasn't enough to upset the Trojans.
Long Beach State (6-3) held even with USC (4-1) early, as goals from Bakic and Wong had the game tied at two before a Marin Dasic goal put the Trojans on top just before the end of the first quarter. USC would hold the Beach off the board in the second quarter however, taking a 6-2 lead into the half that would last the rest of the game.
Sophomore Marwan Darwish had solid night in goal with 15 saves, but a consistent USC attack led to the Trojan win.
The Beach will be back in action this weekend with two games on September 21st and another two on September 22nd. Live stats will be available throughout the Air Force Invitational at http://www.thefosh.net.
