Long Beach State finishes final competition prior to the Big West Championship.

FULLERTON, Calif. – A late addition to the schedule provided additional opportunities for Long Beach State's track and field athletes to have a final tuneup before the Big West Championships at the Titan Twilight hosted by Cal State Fullerton.

Long Beach State shined in the men's discus in what was a big event on the day. Junior Charlie Vernoy uncorked a throw of 58.96m, nearly ten feet further than his closest competitor this season in the Big West. Vernoy's toss of 192'9" is the fifth-longest in school history and looks to be a regional qualifying mark.

Freshman Sebastian Coleman threw a PR of 54.35m while finishing in fourth, while Josh Carr threw 54.07m. Both are now in the top five in the conference this season entering the Big West Championships.

In a strong pole vault field featuring non-collegiate athletes, sophomore Michael Magula cleared 4.65m to qualify for the Big West championships. John Kendrick did the same on the track, running a 10.87, the top collegiate time at the Titan Twilight.

For the women, the Beach had two podium finishers in Diana Acholonu and Camille Finley in the high jump as the pair took second and third place.

The women also had two meet champions, as junior transfer Skylin Harbin ran a 61.44 in the 400m hurdles to win that event, while also finishing fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.14.

Junior Julie Vargas was the winner of the 1500m, clocking a time of 4:47.05 to edge out Ann Kelly of Loyola Marymount at the line.

Long Beach State's heptathletes and decathletes will continue the first weekend of the Big West Championship Saturday, with the remainder of the team beginning competition May 11 in Santa Barbara.
