Dirtbags Fall in Game Two at No. 13 UCSB, 13-1

Long Beach State started the game with a leadoff home run from Chris Jimenez, but it was all Gauchos from there in a 13-1 win for the home team. It was the first home run of the sophomore’s career, and Jacob Hughey added two hits for the Dirtbags in the loss.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Saturday's game got off to a perfect start for Long Beach State (11-37, 5-12 Big West) as sophomore catcher Chris Jimenez hit his first career home run to lead off the game, but it was all No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (39-7, 14-3 Big West) as the host Gauchos ran off with a 13-1 victory. The win clinches the series for UCSB and improves their home record to 24-1 on the season.

Jimenez got the game off to a roaring start for the Dirtbags, pulling a pitch down the left field line and over the 335-foot sign for a leadoff homer. It was the first homer of his Dirtbags career and the second leadoff home run of the season for the Dirtbags after Riki DeSa left the yard to start the team's Mar. 19 game at USC.

Junior Jacob Hughey had a pair of infield singles, and Laine Huffman and Chase Luttrell added hits as well for Long Beach State.

LBSU used five pitchers in the game and 16 position players made an appearance as well. The game was delayed in the middle of the fourth inning due to a lightning strike reported within five miles of the stadium. The delay lasted just over 30 minutes and both starting pitchers remained in the game when play resumed.

The Dirtbags will look to take the final game of the series on Sunday, with Zak Baayoun (3-7, 5.10 ERA) going up against LHP Rodney Boone (6-0, 2.87 ERA) for Santa Barbara. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
