Women’s Tennis Closes Regular Season With 4-2 Win At UC Irvine

Long Beach State takes the Black and Blue Rivalry to finish Big West play with a 6-2 record.
IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State rallied from a doubles point loss with four singles victories to finish off the regular season, defeating UC Irvine 4-2 on the road in the Black and Blue Rivalry.
Long Beach State (14-5, 6-2 Big West) suffered a rare doubles point loss, falling against UC Irvine (14-11, 2-6 Big West) to begin the day. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer rolled to a 6-1 win in the top flight over Stephanie Hazell and Danielle Garrido, but the Anteaters evened the point with a 6-1 win by Stephanie Nguyen and Alysia Fossorier against Zara Lennon and Emma Bardet. Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda then took just their third doubles loss in the dual season, falling 6-4 to Flora Amiti and Jessica Tsukiji as the home team tok the early lead.
The Beach would bounce back in singles however. Lennon evened the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Fossorier at No. 5, and Munoz was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Amiri at No. 3 to put the Beach out in front.
After battling to a 7-5 win in the first set in the top flight, Rutkowska dominated in a 6-0 second set over Hazell to bring the Beach a third win. UC Irvine's Nguyen won 6-2, 6-2 over Bardet at No. 2 to pull the Anteaters within a match, but a 6-1, 6-4 victory by Sadaf Sadeghvaziri over Arianna Tilbury closed out the win for Long Beach State.
Long Beach State will wait out the rest of the conference completing their final matches before learning their seed and opponent for the upcoming Big West Tournament, but do know that their first match will be on April 26 in Indian Wells, Calif. in the quarterfinals.
