Beach Takes Doubles Point But Falls At Loyola Marymount

Long Beach State finishes off the regular season Friday at UC Irvine.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Lalita Devarakonda and Natalia Munoz recorded their 13th win of the dual match season to claim the doubles point on the road at Loyola Marymount, but the Lions recovered to win four singles matches on the way to a 4-2 win over the Beach.
Emma Bardet and Zara Lennon got the day started on a positive note for Long Beach State (13-5), winning 6-4 over Yesica De Lucas and Softiya Gaisina to even up the doubles point at one match apiece. Loyola Marymount (9-8) took the first match of the day in the top flight as Vero Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek defeated Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer 6-3.
Devarakonda and Munoz would grab the point for the Beach, however, winning 7-5 over Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielson to improve to 13-2 on the year in doubles play.
The Lions recovered in singles however. Camila Tumosa evened the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Zara Lennon at No. 5, and Miroshnichenko won 6-3, 6-4 in the top flight against Rutkowska.
Munoz finished off an unbeaten day with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anderson at No. 3 to give the Beach a lift, but a win at No. 4 from De Lucas over Devarakonda and a 6-1, 7-5 decision by Voracek over Bardet at No. 2 ended the match.
Long Beach State closes out the regular season on the road at UC Irvine, with the Black and Blue Rivalry playing a key role in terms of Big West Tournament seeding as well as the remaining chance for the Beach to claim a share in the conference title. That match will begin at 1 p.m. in Irvine.
