The Beach is looking to take a four-match winning streak into the Big West Tournament.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a one-week hiatus, Long Beach State women's tennis is back in action with a pair of road matches to close out the regular season. After a Wednesday match on the road at Loyola Marymount, the Beach will finish off Big West action with a Black and Blue Rivalry matchup at UC Irvine.
Long Beach State (13-4, 5-2 Big West) opens the competition week on Wednesday with an afternoon meeting at Loyola Marymount (8-8). Against Big West opposition this season, the Lions were 4-3 winners in a close match against UC Santa Barbara, and had a match against Cal State Fullerton rained out earlier in the year.
The Beach will then look to keep pace at the top of the Big West standings on Friday, playing at 1 p.m. on the road at UC Irvine (14-10, 2-5 Big West). After piling up some early wins in dual match competition, the Anteaters have struggled in conference action, with the team's only wins coming against UC Davis and UC Riverside.
The Beach has won four out of their last five matches, and is looking to keep the momentum going behind balanced play. Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda have been a doubles force, now 12-2 in dual matches while the Beach has been balanced in singles, with four players having recorded at least eight wins and having three different players recognized as Big West Player of the Week in Dominuque Meyer, Wiktoria Rutkowska and Munoz.
After this weekend's matches, Long Beach State will head out to Indian Wells to compete in the Big West Tournament from April 26 to 28.
