LBSU Field Athletes Finish up Competition at the Triton Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif.-
Long Beach State's men's throwers and pole vaulters made up the bulk of the competitors in action on Saturday at the Triton Invitational, as the Beach wrapped up their final meet before returning to the Jack Rose Track next week.

Nicholas Hudson got the competition moving for the Beach, as he placed fifth in the hammer throw, setting a mark at 62.02m (203-02.00). Hudson currently holds the eighth spot on the all-time list in the event. Josh Carr followed in 10th place with a throw of 57.71m (189-04.00).

In the invitational section of the shot put, Tavi Kamurallah threw to a mark of 16.94m (55-07.00), while freshman Toa Otine was just off of his personal-best with a throw of 15.57m (51-01.00) in the open section of the event.

Eight LBSU athletes competed in the open section of the men's discus. Charlie Vernoy was the event winner with a solid throw of 56.73m (186-01.00). Carr finished in sixth, throwing 52.78m (173-02.00). Blair Robinson represented for the Beach in the men's long jump mark of 21-06.00 to finish in 16th.

In the pole vault, Christian Mueller recorded a lifetime-best jump of 4.65m (15-03.00) to place sixth in the open section.

On the women's side, Long Beach State participated in two events as Malia Talavou was the only 49er to compete in the shot put. Talavou finished top nine in the open section, throwing 12.49m (40-11.75). In the pole vault, freshman Amy Bell recorded a personal-best mark of 12-01.50 to win the event, while teammate Teresa Tamashiro followed in 10th with a jump of 11-01.75.

Long Beach State will host multiple days of exciting track and field action at the Jack Rose Track in the next week. The Beach hosts the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, April 18, and then hosts the annual Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
