LONG BEACH, Calif. –
The No. 8 Long Beach State Beach Volleyball team battled the elements on Wednesday and came away with a pair of victories over No. 15 Stetson, 4-1, and No. 12 Loyola Marymount to improve to 5-1 on the year.

The Beach fought through rainy and windy conditions to open the day against the Hatters. LBSU jumped ahead early with a pair of wins from the duos of Nicci Reinking and Zoi Konstantopoulou at No. 2 and Kendra Koelsch and Sophie Major at No. 4 to give the Beach a 2-0 advantage over the Hatters.

Stetson (4-2) picked up a win at No. 5 as LBSU's Tyler Spriggs and Kenzie Holtz fell to Quinci Birker and Rebecca Ingram, 21-9, 21-13. But Long Beach State was undeterred and concluded the match with a 21-16, 21-15 victory by Allie Loitz and Sydney Stevens, followed by a three-set win (21-19, 10-21, 16-14) by Megan Kruidhof and Mari Molina.

In the next match, Long Beach State found itself down 2-0 to LMU (5-3) after the first round of matches. But the Beach showed their grit and fought back as Loitz and Stevens got the comeback going with a 21-14, 22-20 win at No. 3. The No. 5 pair of Spriggs and Alexis Patterson evened the match at two sets a piece with a 22-20, 22-20 win over LMU's Veronica Nederend and Erin Martin.

With the match knotted at 2-2, the attention turned to the Bill Lovelace center court where Kruidhof and Molina were battling it out with Savannah Slattery and Reka Orsi Toth. The Beach won the first set 21-15, before disposing of the Lions' duo, 21-18, to win in a thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Thursday, March 7 as the Beach and the Hatters will face off at noon at USC, before LBSU goes up against No. 4 Florida State at 4 p.m. in Los Angeles, Calif.
