
No. 8 Beach Volleyball to Play Four Matches This Week

The Beach hosts No. 15 Stetson, No. 12 LMU at the LBSU Sand Courts before playing a pair of games on the road Thursday
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 8 Long Beach State Beach Volleyball team has a busy week ahead as the Beach play a pair of matches against No. 15 Stetson, in addition to playing No. 12 Loyola Marymount and No. 4 Florida State.
The Beach kick off the week with a 10:30 a.m. contest against Stetson on Wednesday, before hosting LMU at 2:30 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts. Following the home tri dual, Long Beach State will head to USC to go up against Stetson on Thursday at 12 noon, before closing out the week against No. 4 Florida State at 4 p.m., in Los Angeles, Calif.
LAST WEEK
Long Beach State is coming off of a successful opening week as the Beach went 3-1 with a pair of sweeps. The pair of Allie Loitz and Sydney Stevens led LBSU as the duo picked up four 2-0 wins, including handing No. 3 Pepperdine's pair their first loss of the year, en route to being named Big West Pairs Team of the Week.
ABOUT THE BEACH
Long Beach State remained at No. 8 in the AVCA Coaches Poll after kicking off the 2019 campaign with a 3-1 overall record. The Beach opened the year with a 5-0 sweep of Cal State LA at the LBSU Sand Courts. The Beach were dominant in the contest as they never dropped a set.
LBSU then turned in a solid performance at the Zuma Classic hosted by No. 3 Pepperdine as the Beach picked up a 4-1 win over CSUN to start the day. After dropping their first match of the season, a 4-1 loss to the Waves, the Beach bounced back with a 5-0 sweep of CSU Bakersfield.
ABOUT STETSON
No. 15 Stetson brings a 3-1 record into its matches against the Beach after having opened the season with back-to-back sweeps of No. 13 Georgia State and Saint Leo, before falling, 5-0, to No. 10 FIU. The Hatters got back on the winning track with a 5-0 victory over Eckerd at the Stetson Spring Fling.
The Hatters were led last week by the pair of Carly Perales and Sunniva Helland-Hansen who went 3-1 with a pair of sweeps over the No. 1 pairs from Georgia State, Saint Leo and Eckerd. The duo's performance earned them ASUN Pair of the Week honors.
ABOUT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
No. 12 LMU is off to a 5-1 start to the 2019 season as the Lions opened the year with three straight wins over Grand Canyon (3-2), Arizona State (5-0), and New Mexico (5-0). After suffering a 4-1 setback at USC last week, the Lions bounced back with a pair of sweeps at CSUN (5-0) and against Vanguard (5-0).
ABOUT FLORIDA STATE
No. 4 Florida State is off to a hot start with an 8-1 overall record as the Seminoles went 4-0 last week at the FAU Beach Burrow Bash. Florida State kicked off the Bash with a 4-1 win over LSU, then picked up a 4-1 victory over UAB on the first day of the tournament. The 'Noles wrapped up action on the final day with a sweep of South Carolina and a 4-1 win over host, FAU.
NEXT UP
Long Beach State will be back in action on Thursday, March 14 when it welcomes Missouri State and Irvine Valley College for a tri dual at the LBSU Sand Courts. The Beach and Missouri State will play at 10:30, before taking on ICV at 2:30 p.m.
