No. 9 Beach Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight with Victories Over Oregon, Concordia

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 9 Long Beach State beach volleyball team earned a pair of victories on Wednesday at the LBSU Sand Courts to extend their winning streak to six matches. The Beach opened the day with a 4-1 win over Oregon, before sweeping Concordia in the afternoon contest.
Long Beach State has now won six straight matches and seven of its last eight contests to improve to 12-4 on the year and 10-1 at home. Meanwhile, Oregon drops to 2-8 on the season, while Concordia falls to 4-9 overall.
The Beach opened the day against the Ducks and quickly jumped ahead winning at flights 2 and 4 to take a 2-0 advantage heading into the second round. Mari Molina and Megan Kruidhof, who played at No. 2, split the first two sets against Oregon's Maddy Silberger-Franek and Emily Matton before rolling over the Ducks' duo, 15-7 in the final set.
Leading two sets to none, Long Beach State picked up two more wins at flights three and five as Kendra Koelsch and Sydney Stevens won at No. 3, 21-17, 21-5, before the pair of Claire Newlander and Sophie Major defeated Carly Wallace and Elise Ferreira, 21-17 and 21-10.
LBSU came back in the afternoon contest against the Eagles and dominated the match. The Beach did not drop a set defeating CUI in straight sets. Molina and Kruidhof won in commanding fashion at No. 1, 21-6, 21-10, while Nicci Reinking and Zoi Konstantopoulou played at No. 2 and picked up a 21-9, 21-13 victory.
The Beach look to continue their winning streak this weekend as they travel to Pismo Beach, Calif., for the Big West Challenge.
Long Beach State will face off against Big West foes CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly, and Sacramento State on Saturday, March 30, before taking on Hawaii, CSUN and UC Davis on Sunday, March 31 in a busy weekend.
