No. 9 Beach Volleyball Looks to Extend Winning Streak This Week

The Beach host Oregon and Concordia on Wednesday, before heading to Pismo Beach for the Big West Challenge this weekend
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After winning four matches last week, the No. 9 Long Beach State beach volleyball team looks to extend its winning streak with eight matches in a busy week ahead.
The Beach (10-4) host Oregon and Concordia on Wednesday, March 27 at the LBSU Sand Courts, before traveling to Pismo Beach for the Big West Challenge on Saturday and Sunday. At the Big West Challenge, Long Beach State will go head-to-head with CSU Bakersfield, No. 7 Cal Poly, Sacramento State, No. 6 Hawaii, CSUN and UC Davis.
LAST WEEK
Long Beach State went 4-1 last week as the Beach suffered a 5-0 setback to No. 5 Pepperdine to start the week, but finished strong winning four straight matches at the Belmont Shore Challenge. LBSU defeated Washington (4-1), Nebraska (4-1), No. 14 Stanford (4-1), and Colorado Mesa (5-0) to roll through the tournament that was held at Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach.
ABOUT THE BEACH
• The Beach are on a four-match winning streak and have won six of their last seven matches.
• Long Beach State is 8-1 when playing at home and 10-4 on the year.
• The duo of Megan Kruidhof and Mari Molina are 11-3 on the season as they started the year at No. 1 and compiled a 6-2 record, before moving to the No. 2 spot where they are now 5-1.
• The pair, along with No. 1 Zoi Konstantopoulou/Nicci Reinking and No. 5 Sophie Major/Claire Newlander, are riding a four-match winning streak.
• LBSU remained at No. 9 in the AVCA Coaches Poll this week.
ABOUT OREGON
• The Ducks picked up their first win of the season, a 4-1 victory over Portland on Sunday, March 10
• Oregon will face Loyola Marymount and UCLA before coming to Long Beach to go up against the Beach and Concordia.
• The Ducks' top flight of Brooke Nuneviller/Lindsey Vander Weide are 4-2 on the year, while the No. 4 pair of Lauren Page/August Raskie are 2-2.
ABOUT CONCORDIA
• The Eagles bring a 4-7 overall record into the match against the Beach
• Concordia opened the season on a four-match winning streak, but has since dropped its last seven straight contests.
• The Eagles are looking to get their first win since a 3-2 win over Nebraska on March 1.
ABOUT CSU BAKERSFIELD
• The Roadrunners come into the Big West Challenge with a 5-6 overall record.
• CSU Bakersfield dropped its last two matches at the Belmont Short Challenge, falling to Colorado Mesa (3-2) and Washington (5-0).
• The Roadrunners have lost four out of their last five matches as they look to get back on the winning track.
ABOUT CAL POLY
• The No. 7 Mustangs host the Big West Challenge in Pismo Beach and bring a 10-5 overall record into the tournament.
• Cal Poly is riding a seven-match winning streak dating back to March 13 when it dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 5 Pepperdine.
• The Mustangs are led by the duo of Chrissy Jones/Tiadora Miric who ae 9-3 on the year. The pair is 8-2 when playing at No. 1 and on a seven-match winning streak.
ABOUT SACRAMENTO STATE
• The Hornets are struggling with a 1-6 overall record on the year.
• Their lone win on the season came at the hands of San Francisco (3-2) on March 15.
• Sac State has since lost its last three matches as the Hornets look to snap their three-match losing skid.
ABOUT HAWAII
• No. 6 Hawaii comes into the Big West Challenge with a 13-6 overall record.
• The Rainbow Wahine are coming off of a 4-1 win at Arizona State last weekend.
• Leading Hawaii on the year is the tandem of Morgan Martin/Pani Napoleon who boast a perfect 10-0 record at No. 3
• Ari Homayun/Julia Scoles have seen action at No. 2 and No. 3, posting a 14-4 overall record, while Emily Maglio/Amy Ozee are 8-3 on the year and 7-3 in the No. 1 spot.
ABOUT CSUN
• The Matadors are 6-6 on the year thus far and are coming off of a 4-1 win over Colorado Mesa last week in Northridge.
• CSUN has won four out of its last five matches, with its lone loss in the last two weeks coming against No. 13 Loyola Marymount.
• The Matadors previously faced Long Beach State on March 2 and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Beach.
ABOUT UC DAVIS
• In the Aggies inaugural beach volleyball season, UC Davis has put together a 2-3 overall record.
• The Aggies opened the year with a pair of wins over Sacramento State, but have since dropped three 5-0 contests to No. 13 Stanford, and No. 11/12 Cal twice.
• Lauren Matias/Jane Seslar play at the No. 1 flight for the Aggies and are 2-3 on the year, while Josephine Ough/Heather Reed are the No. 2 pair own a 1-3 record in that spot.

Following the Big West Challenge, Long Beach State returns to southern California to take on No. 2 USC on Thursday, April 11, before hosting No. 12 Cal on Friday, April 12 at the LBSU Sand Courts.
