LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State led wire-to-wire in an impressive 94-85 victory at home against Cal Poly, stretching the team's winning streak to four with one game remaining in the regular season.
Long Beach State (13-18, 7-8 Big West) had four seniors in double figures, led by Deishuan Booker who had an impressive line of 31 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the win. It was Booker's second double-double of the season, and fourth 30-point game of the season.
Bryan Alberts added 16 points, Mason Riggins chipped in 14 points and Temidayo Yussuf scored 11 as the Beach never trailed against Cal Poly (6-21, 2-21 Big West).
The Beach did it with defense in the first half, holding Cal Poly to 31 points and opening up a big lead early. Starting the game on a 10-2 run, Long Beach State would lead by as many as 13 in the first half, and led 40-31 at the break.
In the second half, it was the offense that carried the way. Continuing the team's aggressive style, the Beach went 25-of-29 from the free throw line in the second half to close out the win.
LBSU would push the lead to a game-high 19 at 78-59, and while the Mustangs made a run to cut the lead to nine, Long Beach State was never really threatened as Drew Cobb, Alberts and Booker were perfect from the line in the final three minutes to stymie the comeback.
Long Beach State closes out the regular season this coming Wednesday, hosting UC Riverside at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid. Don't miss it as the Beach honors their senior class on Senior Night.
