Barker’s Final-Round 70 Leads Beach to Sixth Place Finish

Long Beach State wrapped up the Briar’s Creek Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in sixth on the team leaderboard ahead of five ranked teams. Senior Cara Barker had the best round on Tuesday, shooting a 2-under 70 to move up 35 spots on the leaderboard.
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Senior Cara Barker shot a 2-under round of 70 on Tuesday to complete the Briar's Creek Invitational and help Long Beach State to a sixth place finish. The Beach ended the tournament above five nationally-ranked opponents: No. 20 Furman, No. 22 Clemson, No. 27 Illinois, No. 45 East Carolina and No. 50 Penn State. LBSU was also just two shots back of fourth place and six shots back of third.
Barker improved in each round of the tournament, saving her best for last on Tuesday. The senior made five birdies and three bogeys on Tuesday, including a birdie on her final hole of the day, the par-5 5th. She moved up 35 spots on the leaderboard in the final round, finishing in a tie for 36th along with classmate Haley Tygret.
LBSU's top finisher was junior Maria Davis, who finished tied for 18th with a score of 2-over for the tournament. Davis was just two shots outside the top 10 but did record her third Top 20 finish of the season and second in her last three tournaments.
Next up on the schedule for Long Beach State is the Black & Blue Rivalry Match against UC Irvine on Apr. 11 at Old Ranch Country Club. That will serve as the final tune-up for the Big West Championships, running Apr. 15-17 at Moorpark Country Club.
