Softball Crushes Harvard To Win Fourth Straight

Long Beach State wins their second game this season via the run rule.
FULLERTON, Calif. – Long Beach State got on the board early and cruised to an 8-0 win in five innings over Harvard, the second run-rule victory of the season for the Beach.
Kellie White retired the first six batters she faced and then worked her way out of trouble the rest of the way to record her second shutout of the season, striking out three in the victory.
The Long Beach State (12-14) offense continued to have a massive weekend through, scoring the eight runs in the first two innings against Harvard (6-8).
Nichole Fry singled and Naomi Hernandez walked, with ball four coming on a wild pitch. Smart baserunning from Hernandez put both runners in scoring position, and Sydney McCollum scored the first run of the game with a sac fly. Alyssa Gonzalez and Tierra Falo followed with RBI hits to put the Beach on top 3-0.
In the second, Long Beach State sent all nine to the plate and took advantage of a pair of Harvard errors to pile up the necessary runs. Justine Briones walked to lead off the inning, and then a wild throw on a Kasey Hutton sacrifice put two on for the top of the lineup. Hernandez brought home a run with a single. The inning followed with three more RBI singles from Jamie Wren, Gonzalez and Falo as the Beach moved in front 8-0.
LBSU left baserunners on in the third and fourth innings, but didn't need any extra runs prior to the run-rule win.
Long Beach State closes out the Easton Invitational with one final game, facing Iowa State later this afternoon.
