Softball Wins Third In A Row With Another Gem From Coleman
3/16/2019 12:10:00 PM | Softball
Kasey Hutton went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBI off of the bench.
FULLERTON, Calif. – Long Beach State kept it rolling in Fullerton, as Ashley Coleman pitcher her second one-hitter of the weekend, allowing just two base-runners while the offense kept doing their thing in a 5-0 win over DePaul
Coleman continued to pitch well in Fullerton, retiring 18 or 19 batters after a first inning double from Jessica Cothern. DePaul (18-7) never truly threatened at any point,
The Beach finally broke through in the fourth inning. Jamie Wren and Alyssa Gonzalez kicked off the inning by drawing consecutive walks, and both were pushed into scoring position on a sacrifice from Kasey Hutton. Breezy Wise then hit a high chopper to score Wren and give LBSU a 1-0 lead.
Long Beach State extended the lead in the fifth inning. Lauren Lombardi reached on an error to start the inning, and after a double from Nichole Fry, a chopper from Naomi Hernandez and an RBI single from Sydney McCollum increased the LBSU lead to 3-0.
Hutton came to the plate and delivered again, hitting a triple of the head of Brianna Viles in right field to score two more in the fifth.
Long Beach State closes out the Easton Invitational with two more games Sunday, taking on Harvard at 11 a.m. before closing the tournament against Iowa State at 2 p.m.
