The Beach combined to score 20 runs over two games.
FULLERTON, Calif. – Long Beach State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on the way to a second win in Fullerton Friday, defeating College of Charleston 11-1.
Long Beach State (10-14) bookended the second game of Friday's doubleheader with a pair of big innings. Nichole Fry got the action started with a leadoff single for the second straight game, and Naomi Hernandez and Sydney McCollum followed with hits, an RBI double from McCollum brining in the first run. A throwing error from College of Charleston (11-12) scored both Hernandez and McCollum, and then an RBI single from Tierra Falo gave the Beach a 4-0 lead before CofC came up to the plate.
Loading the bases in the third, the Beach pushed across one more run in the third. Katelyn Hanson then doubled home a run in the fifth, and another Charleston error helped the Beach tack on two more on a double from Jamie Wren.
Going to the seventh Hanson hit her second double of the game to lead off the inning. Justine Briones singled to bring home a run, an RBI double from Hernandez added a second and then Wren brought home Hernandez for her third RBI of the game, making the score 11-1.
Kellie White went the distance to pick up her third win of the year, striking out eight and not allowing a walk. Her long blemish came from the only back-to-back hits in the game for Charleston, a single and a double with two outs in the fourth inning.
Long Beach State continues play in the Easton Invitational Saturday, facing DePaul at 10 a.m. in Fullerton.
