LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 9 Long Beach State beach volleyball team turned in a pair of dominating performances on Thursday as the Beach rolled past Irvine Valley College, 5-0, before sweeping Missouri State, 5-0.
The Beach never dropped a set as they improved to 6-3 on the year, while the Laser dropped to 4-3, and the Bears fell to 3-6 overall.
Long Beach State started the day off strong as the Megan Kruidhof and Mari Molina took a pair of commanding wins at No. 2 to defeat Gabi Greigo and Anna Unke, 21-9, 21-10. Playing at No. 4, Tyler Spriggs and Alexis Patterson handed Kendall Nolan and Alaina Gendale a pair of losses (21-17, 21-11) to give the Beach a 2-0 lead.
LBSU swept through the next round of matches as the Beach were led by Nicci Reinking and Zoi Konstantopoulou who rolled passed Renata Bath and Lea Kruse at No. 1, 21-7, 21-10.
Sydney Stevens and Kendra Koelsch paired up to play at No. 3 and came away with a 21-11, 21-18 win, while Claire Newlander and Sophie Major defeated Alison Kent and Alaina Thomas, 21-9, 21-17.
The Beach came back for the match against Missouri State and were just as dominant. Long Beach State controlled the match taking a 2-0 lead after the pairs of Molina/Kruidhof and Spriggs/Patterson picked up a couple of 2-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
Reinking and Konstantopoulou gave the Beach the win with a 21-10, 21-8 victory at No. 1, while Stevens and Molina earned a 21-11, 21-18 win at No. 3. Newlander and Major completed the sweep with a 21-18 and 21-14 win at No. 5.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Wednesday, March 20 when the Beach host No. 5 Pepperdine at 1 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts.
