
No. 9 Long Beach State Suffers Setback Against No. 5 Pepperdine

Reinking and Konstantopoulou took Pepperdine’s No. 1 flight to three sets in loss
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 9 Long Beach State beach volleyball team dropped a 5-0 contest to No. 5 Pepperdine on Wednesday afternoon at the LBSU Sand Courts.
With the loss, Long Beach State moves to 6-4 on the year, while Pepperdine improves to 12-5.
The Beach battled the Waves hard in the opening round as No. 4 Tyler Spriggs and Alexis Patterson lost by a score of 21-19, 21-16 to Nikki Lyons and Maddie Dilfer, before Mari Molina and Megan Kruidhof came up just short against No. 2 Deahna Kraft and Gigi Hernandez, 21-18, 21-19.
Down 2-0, Long Beach State battled Pepperdine in the second round of matches as No. 5 Claire Newlander and Sophie Major fell to Simone Priebe and Katie Gavin, 22-20, 21-15, and No. 4 Kendra Koelsch and Sydney Stevens dropped a 21-14, 26-24 decision to Alexis Filippone and Skylar Caputo.
The Beach's top flight of Nicci Reinking and Zoi Konstantopoulou managed to take a set off of Pepperdine's Heidi Dyer and Brook Bauer winning the second set 21-19, before falling in the third, 15-6.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Friday, March 22 when the Beach take on Washington at noon and Nebraska at 3 p.m. at Rosie's Dog Beach in Long Beach.
