Women’s Golf Moves Into Top 10 on Final Day of Wildcat Invitational

Junior Maria Davis led the way for Long Beach State with a 2-under round of 70 on Tuesday to help move Long Beach State up the leaderboard. LBSU finished 10th in a talented field that featured six nationally-ranked squads.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Long Beach State moved up on the team leaderboard during Tuesday's final round at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona at Sewailo Golf Club. LBSU moved into the Top 10 in a difficult field of teams, with six of the nine teams ahead of the Beach nationally ranked entering the tournament.
Junior Maria Davis led the way for Long Beach State, firing a 2-under 70 to record the best round of the week for the Beach. Davis bounced back from a difficult second round and became LBSU's top finisher, tied with freshman Hannah Ko in a tie for 46th. Davis made five birdies and three bogeys in her final round, and at one stretch of nine holes made four birdies and five pars to surge up the leaderboard. Putting her round in context, there were 92 golfers who each played three rounds this week. Of those 276 rounds played, only 13 finished with a score of 70 or better, indicating the challenging scoring conditions in Arizona.
Ko also finished in a tie for 46th with a round of 79 on Tuesday. Junior Holland Shourds had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting a 3-over 75 to end up tied for 55th on the leaderboard.
The Beach will be back in action next week, traveling to the East Coast for the Briar's Creek Invitational in Johns Island, S.C. on Mar. 18-19.
