Women’s Tennis Stays Unbeaten With 4-0 Win Over Nevada

Long Beach State battled for a doubles point and then won the top three flights in singles.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After grinding to a doubles point to start the day, Long Beach State won singles matches in the three top flights to defeat Nevada 4-0 on Saturday.
"Our doubles really played a big role in today's win," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. It was a really impressive performance at No. 1 today, and a gutsy effort to clinch the point at No. 2."
Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer continued their strong start to the spring season with a dominant 6-0 win, but Nevada pulled even with a 6-1 win over Sadaf Sadeghvaziri and Carlota Casasampere at No. 3, setting the stage for an important match between Natalia Munoz/Lalita Devarakonda and Gergelyova and vanReek of Nevada. Going to a tiebreaker, it was the Beach veterans that prevailed winning 7-5 in the tiebreaker to claim the doubles point and a 7-6 win.
"The top of half of our singles lineup played solid, aggressive tennis to close out the victory," added Hilt-Costello.
Emma Bardet in her only action Saturday cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Melissa Huchet at No.1, and Munoz won by the same score at No. 3 against Adriana Gergelyova. Ruktowska closed out the win, rolling to a 7-2 tiebreak win in the first set on the way to a 7-6, 6-3 victory.
The remaining three matches were halted following Long Beach State clinching the match with Rutkowska's victory. Rutkowsa, Bardet and Munoz all improved to
Long Beach State will try once again to host San Diego in the much moved and anticipated dual match between the teams, currently set to start at 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 10.
