No. 25 Long Beach State hits three home runs in the win.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Beach did it with the long ball as Taylor Rowland, Jamie Wren and Breezy Wise all hit home runs as LBSU bounced back with a 11-2 win in six innings against Seton Hall in the first of two games for the Beach on Saturday.
Long Beach State (2-1) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back against the Musketeers. Senior Jamie Wren had another big day, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI got the action started for the Beach in the top of the second inning with a leadoff single, and then stole second and took third on an overthrow.
Wise reached base on an RBI grounder, and after a Seton Hall (1-3) wild pitch, scored an RBI groundout from freshman Emily Salazar to give the Beach a 2-0 lead.
LBSU then broke the game open in the third with the top of the order starting the inning. Naomi Hernandez walked to open the frame, and Rowland cracked the first home run of the game, a two-run shot to right to make the score 4-0. Wren kept the rally going with a single, and Wise hit the second two-run shot of the inning to increase the lead. Back-to-back doubles from Justine Briones and Salazar tacked on one more as the Beach opened up a 7-0 lead.
An error on the leadoff batter in the bottom of the third helped Seton Hall push one run across, and a leadoff double by Pandolfo in the fifth led to another.
Up 8-2 entering the sixth, another home run closed out the game. Rowland walked with one out, and Wren hit the third two-run homer of the game for Long Beach State to make the score 10-2, and then a double from Wise and a pinch hit single from Taylor Jaurique added the final run of the day.
Ashley Coleman improved to 2-0 on the year, throwing four hitless innings and giving up just the one unearned run. Presley Miraglia finished off the game in her Long Beach State debut, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing one run.
Wren, Wise and Briones all finished with multiple hits, and Hernandez extended her hitting streak to 13 games with a fourth-inning single. Long Beach State is back in action at 3:30 p.m. against the hosts UNLV.
