Long Beach State will face Nevada Saturday, and then play the rescheduled San Diego dual on Sunday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Beach Tennis prepares for two matches this weekend at home as Long Beach State welcomes Nevada and San Diego to the Rhodes Tennis Center.
The first match will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m., one hour sooner than originally scheduled due to logistical issues. Nevada begins the week 5-0, and will face a trio of Big West opponents over the weekend. They will start by playing at UC Santa Barbara on Friday before heading down to Long Beach on Saturday, and finish on the road at UC Riverside on Sunday.
On Sunday, Long Beach State will try to play their twice rescheduled dual match with San Diego. Originally scheduled for February 2, rains in Southern California forced a postponement, but the Beach is set to face the 0-1 Toreros at 11 a.m. Sunday. San Diego competed with Long Beach State in the Beach Tennis Invitational held January 18-20 in the Rhodes Tennis Center earlier this year. The teams split the top honors in the four-team tournament, with Solimar Colling of San Diego taking the singles championship while Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer of the Beach won the doubles championship.
The duo of freshmen have taken two of the first three Big West Player of the Week awards this spring. Rutkowska, Natalia Munoz and Emma Bardet have all won double-digit matches in singles already this season and will look to lead Long Beach State's efforts this weekend.
Admission to both matches is free.
