SEAL BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State took third place at its home event, thanks to a solid final round at the 2019 Gold Rush at Old Ranch Country Club. Junior Maria Davis was the top finisher for the Beach, shooting 1-over for the tournament to end in a tie for sixth place.
A pair of San Jose State Spartans shared the individual title, as Abegail Arevalo and Natasha Andrea Oon each finished 2-under for the tournament. Their performances helped the Spartans go wire-to-wire for the team title, winning by three strokes over the Georgia Bulldogs. The rest of the Top 5 came right down to the final hole, with Long Beach State finishing third, one shot ahead of Sacramento State in fourth and two shots clear of BYU in fifth. San Jose State backed up its national ranking of No. 36 with the tournament victory and Georgia is also ranked No. 38 in the country, meaning Long Beach State was the top finisher among unranked teams.
Davis cooled off a bit in Tuesday's final round, but still held on for sixth to record the best finish of her career. It's also the fourth Top 10 finish of the season for the Beach.
Long Beach State had two golfers finish even par on Tuesday to carry the team score.
