LBSU will play UCLA in their first of four matches in the UC Irvine, Barbara Kalbus Invitational
LONG BEACH, Calif. – LBSU (2-6) will look to upset the No. 3 UCLA Bruins (14-1) in their opening match of the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, which will be hosted by UC Irvine. Long Beach State picked up their first pair of wins in the last tournament they competed in as they went 2-2. The Beach will look to build off of their momentum from the UC San Diego tournament heading into the UC Irvine tournament.
Long Beach State will confront UCLA on Friday, Feb. 22 at 12:30 p.m. The rest of the Long Beach State opponents will be determined by bracket play. Whether LBSU wins or loses on Friday, they will be facing a familiar foe in the next round as they could potentially take on No. 6 Michigan or No. 12 LMU.
Freshman Orsi Hertzka leads the Beach in total goals on the season with 23 and is coming off one of her best performances this season. Hertzka's best performance on the season entailed a six-goal outing against No. 21 CSUN. The freshman's performance was tied for the second-most goals scored in a single match in LBSU history. Senior Tori Morrissey comes in second for the Beach with 10 goals, followed by senior companion Annabel Harman with nine goals. Junior Paige Bennett and freshman Sarah Barker round out the top five scorers for the Beach with six goals apiece.
