Women’s Water Polo Adds Two For 2021

Long Beach State is excited to add two dynamic newcomers for the 2021 season.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Long Beach State Women's Water Polo has announced the addition of two student-athletes as Rachael Kowalchick and Mariah Walker have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Beach.
The two California natives will join a young squad following the 2020 campaign next season in 2021.

Rachael Kowalchick, 5-10, Utility, El Dorado Hills, Calif. (Oak Ridge High School)
Rachael Kowalchick has earned a varsity letter all four years at Oak Ridge High school holding the school record for most points with 265 and most goals with 208 in her time as a Trojan. Kowalchick was named to the All-Tournament team at the Oak Ridge Invitational in 2016 and was selected as a First-Team all-League player her last three years.
Kowalchick was named to the league All-Star team in 2019 and was announced League MVP. She plays for American River Water Polo Club under Coach Heather Moody and has competed in Junior Olympics 2017-19. Kowalchick also competed on the ODP team in 2018 and 2019.

Mariah Walker, 5-10, Center, Santa Clara, Calif. (Santa Clara High School)
Mariah Walker has been recognized for all four years as an all-league selection for Santa Clara High School. In 2016, Walker was selected to the All-League second team, scoring over 40 goals in her freshman campaign. Her sophomore year she was named first-team all-league and was named team MVP scoring 70 plus goals on her 2017 season. She also competed on the Combo ODP Team in 2017.
In 2018, Walker was named League MVP and Team MVP and was selected to the Pacific ODP Team and the NTSC Team. Finally as a senior, Walker was named League MVP for the second year in a row and Team MVP for the third year in a row. Walker played for West Valley Club under Coach Don Appleton.
Coaching Staff On Walker:
"Mariah is a talented and strong player who will help move our program forward. She is an all-around wonderful person and has proven to be successful, in both the classroom and the pool. We look forward to watching her grow as a player in the years to come."
