Long Beach State welcomes a pair of incoming freshman for the 2020-21 season
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Men's Golf Coach Michael Wilson announced the signing of two incoming freshman who both hail from Long Beach, Calif., for the 2020-21 season in Andrew Hoekstra and Sebastian Vallejo.
"We are excited to welcome Sebastian Vallejo and Andrew Hoekstra to the Long Beach State Golf family," Wilson said. "The city of Long Beach has produced many exceptional players over the years and this class will, no doubt, add to that legacy.
"This signing of Vallejo and Hoekstra is a special one. Both players possess exceptional talent and character. We're confident they will have immediate impact in the competitive nature of our team. As natives of Long Beach, they will play for our city and help lead us to many successes and championships."
Andrew Hoekstra
Long Beach, Calif. | Mater Dei High School
Hoekstra comes to Long Beach State from Mater Dei High School where he was named to the 2018 Trinity League First Team and was a CIF Individual State Qualifier. Hoekstra posted four top-10 showings while prepping at Mater Dei with his best performance coming at the Toyota Tour Cup at Industry Hills Golf Course where he finished in a tie for second. He went on to place fifth at the SoCal Junior Amateur, as well as in a 10th place tie at the Toyota Tour Cup Championship, and tied for eighth at the Toyota Tour Cup at Oak Valley Golf Course.
Sebastian Vallejo
Long Beach, Calif.
Vallejo, a two-time Los Angeles County Championship winner and four-time Bridgestone Tournament of Champions victor, comes to Long Beach State after a stellar prep career. He was the 2018 SCGA Junior Amateur runner up and finished in a tie for 15th place at the 2015 Callaway Junior World Championship. Vallejo won the Veritas World Junior and was a member of the squad that won the SCGA South at the annual North vs. South Challenge Cup.
The promising duo will join an already talented Long Beach State team which had a successful fall season in which the Beach placed in the top five in all four of their tournaments.
