No. 6 Long Beach State Drops Close Contest To No. 3 Pacific

Last second goal from Pacific defeats the Beach 13-12.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—No. 6 Long Beach State mounted a late comeback at home against No. 3 Pacific, but a late goal helped the Tigers hold off the Beach 13-12 Friday night at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
Long Beach State (13-10, 1-2 Golden Coast) started out strong defensively, only allowing two goals in the first quarter before giving up five goals in the second quarter to fall behind entering the second half 7-4 to Pacific (14-3, 3-0 Golden Coast). Both teams scored four goals in the third quarter to enter the final quarter with a score of 11-8.
A strong fourth quarter performance by the Beach allowed Long Beach State to tie it up in the final minutes of the game before Pacific scored the final goal to defeat the Beach with two seconds remaining in the game.
Seven players for the Beach contributed goals including Senior Quinten Osborne and Sophomore Garrett Zaan who led the Beach with three goals each. Another noteworthy player of the game was Sophomore Theodoros Pateros had two huge goals within the final three minutes of the game to even the score at 12-12. Also contributing to the game offensively were Austin Stewart, Matt Morris, Eduardo Wainberg and Rafael Real Vergara who all scored one goal.
The Beach will have a busy day on Sunday as they take on No. 8 Cal at 12 p.m. followed by Senior Day and a 3 p.m. matchup with Long Beach City College.
