SAN DIEGO – The Beach concluded play at the ITA Southwest Regionals on Saturday, picking up three more singles wins before heading back home to Long Beach.
Â
Emma Bardet's run through the singles draw came to a close in the quarterfinals, as No. 9 seed Anastasia Iamachkine was the first player to take a set off Bardet after she started the weekend 4-0, including a win over a nationally-ranked opponent.
Â
The rest of LBSU's contingent earned victories in extra matches, however, as Natalia Munoz won 6-2, 4-0 with her opponent retiring from the match at that point. Wiktoria Rutkowska and Zara Lennon each took down a player from UC Irvine, winning in straight sets to close the weekend on a strong note.
Â
"We had some ups and downs this weekend but we worked our way through them and learned a lot," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm very proud of Emma's performance. She has the game to be a top college player and she showed that this weekend."
Â
LBSU has just one event left this calendar year, taking part in the CSUN Fall Tournament Nov. 8-10. The Beach will then conclude its preseason slate with the Beach Tennis Winter Invite Jan. 17-19 at Rhodes Tennis Center.
