LBSU Tennis Opens Play at ITA Regionals

The Beach began play at the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego on Thursday, picking up five singles wins out of seven on the day. Emma Bardet was particularly impressive for the Beach, dropping just two games combined over a pair of lopsided wins.
SAN DIEGO – Emma Bardet was dominant on Thursday as the Beach began competition at the ITA Southwest Regionals, hosted by the University of San Diego and San Diego State. Bardet picked up two of LBSU's five singles wins on the day as the Beach had four players in action.

Bardet opened the event with a "double bagel" over Grand Canyon's Sabrina Boever, winning 6-0, 6-0. In round two, she nearly repeated her dominance with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Big West rival Jenna Schlatter from UC Irvine. Natalia Munoz was also a two-match winner in singles play, getting a shortened win in her first match when her opponent retired, then beat another Big West player in Hawai'i's Rebecca Ehn, 6-2, 6-4.

Both players are now in the Round of 32 for the singles draw and will continue to work through the winner's bracket on Friday at approximately 10 a.m.

Zara Lennon also picked up a comfortable singles victory, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Grand Canyon's Mathilde Lirzin, but she was knocked out of the main draw in her next match going up against No. 5 seed Danielle Wilson from USC.

Play resumes with both singles and doubles matches scheduled for the Beach on Friday morning in San Diego.
