The Beach took a first-half lead thanks to a terrific strike from Elysia Laramie on the half hour mark, but Cal State Fullerton responded with a pair of second-half goals to emerge with a 2-1 victory on Thursday night at George Allen Field.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – In a physical rivalry match on Thursday night, Cal State Fullerton (9-2-1, 2-0 Big West) emerged victorious over Long Beach State (3-9-0, 1-2 Big West) thanks to a pair of second-half goals, taking a 2-1 victory at George Allen Field.
Elysia Laramie scored her fourth goal of the season (and third during conference play) to give the Beach a 1-0 lead exactly 30 minutes into the match. The goal was the product of a free kick taken by Kaitlin Fregulia near midfield, flicked over to Laramie by Sierra Castles. Both players earned assists on the goal as Laramie controlled the ball, found a glimpse of daylight and fired it past the Fullerton keeper for a 1-0 LBSU lead.

The Beach ended up outshooting the Titans 11-8, including an 8-4 edge in shots after halftime. Unfortunately for the Beach, Fullerton had two of those shots find the back of the net within the first 21 minutes of the second half.
Fullerton equalized in the 55th minute on a free kick by Atlanta Primus, who was fouled just a couple yards outside the top of the penalty area. Her free kick was placed nicely in the top corner, past the outstretched hand of Marta Alemany Sanchez (four saves) in goal. The Titans got the winner in the 66th minute as Maddie Bennett intercepted a pass and went 1-on-1 with Alemany Sanchez, slotting it past her for the game-winning goal.
Ayana Robles led the Beach with three shots on the night to set a new career high, followed by two from Laramie.
Long Beach State remains at home for its next contest, hosting UC Davis next Friday at 7 p.m.
