LONG BEACH, Calif. - Visiting Cal State Fullerton (31-22, 17-5 Big West) scored in six different innings as they took game one of this weekend's rivalry series against Long Beach State (26-29, 11-11 Big West) on Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
LBSU got off to a sloppy start, committing three errors in the first two innings as the Titans took a 2-0 lead after two. Fullerton eventually led 7-0 before the Dirtbags rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Junior Clayton Andrews had three hits out of the leadoff spot and scored LBSU's first run of the night on an RBI single from Jarren Duran. Later in the rally, Chris Jimenez had an RBI knock and Steven Rivas came off the bench to deliver a pinch-hit RBI of his own.
Starter Zak Baayoun was able to battle through seven innings and did not walk a batter. Cal State Fullerton was able to collect seven extra-base hits on the night to put consistent pressure on Dirtbags pitchers.
Long Beach State will look to bounce back and even the series on Friday at 6 p.m. Andrews (6-7, .2.18 ERA) will get the start, taking on RHP Tommy Wilson (6-0, 2.93 ERA) for the Titans.
