Long Beach State Women's Tennis Drops 4-1 Contest at San Diego

SAN DIEGO – The Long Beach State women's tennis team came up short in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon as they dropped a 4-1 decision to San Diego at the Hogan Tennis Center.
"It was a tough match against a solid team today," Long Beach State head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello said. "We had some opportunities but didn't quite get there. But we are ready to get after it against tomorrow versus San Diego State."
The Beach (8-8) opened the match against the Toreros (9-8) with a hard-fought doubles match up. San Diego won the doubles point after defeating Long Beach State at No. 1 and No. 2.
Down 1-0 heading into singles action, Long Beach State suffered an early setback as Daniela Morales earned a win over Natalia Munoz, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 as the Beach fell behind 2-0. San Diego extended its lead to 3-0 after the Toreros Carolin Nonnenmacher defeated Carlota Casasampere, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6.
Long Beach State managed to get on the board when Maren Helgo collected a 7-6 (2), 6-3 victory over Maria-Paula Torres at No. 3.
However, San Diego managed to pick up the win after Nicole Anderson edged Lena Pacholski by scores of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot. Pacholski put up a fight, but Anderson eventually earned the win as the Beach dropped their second 4-1 decision in as many contests.
Long Beach State looks to bounce back when it hosts San Diego State at the Rhodes Tennis Center on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
