Long Beach, Calif. - Big marks from the throws highlighted a great first day at the Beach Invitational on Friday, with much more action to come on day two tomorrow.

Complete Day One Results

Alyssa Olin of North Dakota State broke the Beach Invitational and Jack Rose Track record in the women's javelin with a throw of 188'06" (57.45m), besting the mark set two years ago by Abigail Gomez Hernandez. Olin has the second-longest throw in the NCAA this season.

In the Men's Hammer, Alexander Young won the event with a throw of 76.02 meters, matching the stadium record set nearly 25 years ago in 1994. Long Beach State alumnus Colin Dunbar took second at 72.08 meters, and they were the only two competitors to throw over 230 feet.

The men's javelin competition nearly saw another record fall as David Carreon was just inches short of the track and meet record after winning the competition with a massive throw of 78.86 meters. Former Long Beach State student-athlete Ben Woodruff was one of six to throw over 70 meters.

De'Ondra Young, competing unattached at the meet during her redshirt season at the Beach, threw a personal best in the women's hammer at 203'8" to place in the top ten, while Crystal Rodriguez set a new career best in the event while leading the active 49er contingent.

The distance races were run on Friday as part of day one, and Long Beach State had a trio of top five finishes. Alexis Ceballos ran the 10k in 37:55.30 to finish in fourth place, while Mikayla Florez rank the 5k in 17:49.08 to take fourth as well. On the Men's side, Ezra Sotelo took fourth in the 5k with a time of 15:11.72.

Logan Schaefer had the top time on Friday in the 1500m and broke the four-minute barrier for the first time at Long Beach State in the early flights of that event. Some heats of the 800-meter dash were run as well, and Long Beach State alum Chris Low had the best time in the event following Friday's action. Low is the track record holder, setting the mark last season at this same meet.

Jack Rose Track will once again be the site for a full day of action tomorrow as the Beach Invitational concludes with the remainder of events beginning at 8:30 a.m. The meet will have a pair of 2016 Gold Medalists competing the long jump and triple jump in Jeff Henderson and Christian Taylor respectively, as well as a renowned international field for the men's discus as well.

Competition Saturday begins at 8:30 a.m. Tickets are general admission and can be purchased at the gate, at the Long Beach State box office, or online here at longbeachstate.com. The track events will also be covered live through FloTrack.
