Two Beach Golfers Finish Top 10 at UC Irvine Invitational

Cara Barker and Haley Tygret each finished in the Top 10, helping Long Beach State to a fifth place finish at Santa Ana Country Club.
SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Seniors Cara Barker and Haley Tygret each logged Top 10 finishes at the UC Irvine Invitational as Long Beach State finished the tournament in fifth place. Barker was even par on Tuesday to finish in a tie for seventh and Tygret shot 1-under to move into a tie for ninth place.
Each player finished under par for the tournament, which featured limited scoring opportunities at Santa Ana Country Club—just 10 golfers shot in the red this week. Not only are the finishes the best of the season for both Barker and Tygret, they also represent LBSU's second and third Top 10 player finishes this season. This is also the second straight Top 5 team finish for the Beach to close out the fall schedule after placing fourth last week at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Junior Holland Shourds, who was competing as an individual in Santa Ana, had her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, shooting even par to move into a tie for 34th. Freshman Hunter Pate led the way for LBSU's individual competitors, finishing tied for 30th.
With the fall season complete, Long Beach State will take three months off from competition before hosting the Mission Hills Invitational on Monday, Jan. 28 at Pete Dye Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
