Freshman Tyler Spencer Leads Long Beach State At Big West Championships

Spencer’s eighth place finish was the highest for LBSU since 2013.
BREA, Calif. – Freshman Tyler Spencer finished in the Top 10 for the men's program at the 2018 Big West Cross Country Championships, leading the Beach to a fifth-place finish as a team Saturday at Carbon Canyon Regional Park.
Spencer finished with a PR of 24:50.5, taking eighth place, the highest finish for any LBSU men's runner since 2013. He was followed across the line by senior Trevor Stangle in 25th place, while a trio of freshman in Raymon Ornelas, Gavin Korby and Wayne Richards rounded out the scoring places for the men's team.
Sophomore Mauren Fitzsimmons was the top finisher for the women's team, crossing the line in 26th place as Long Beach State ended the day in seventh place. Senior Mikayla Florez returned to action with a 42nd place finish, and Leslie Diaz, Alexis Ceballos and Julie Vargas rounded out the top five for the Beach.
Long Beach State will next compete in the NCAA Western Regionals, held in two weeks in Sacramento, Calif. on Friday, November 9.
