Long Beach State's Soccer/Softball Complex Is Revealed To Teams

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- View the reactions from both teams and get a first look at the brand new soccer and softball clubhouses that were revealed to the teams in the last week, with women's soccer utilizing the facility for their game against Cal Poly on October 11.
The construction of the building has been made possible through a combination of generous gifts from the Long Beach community as well as University support. Doug and Sandra Leafstedt had previously committed a gift of $200,000, which was matched by the University. Further significant donations to the project were made by Bernard Borenstein, Christopher Cornell, John & Carol Kagy, Larry & Suzanne Margerum, Dennis & Susan Pitts, Al & Mary Shadbourne, Robert Summers, Thom VanZandt and Mike & Arline Walter.
"Here at Long Beach State, we strive to be excellent at everything we do," said President Jane Close Conoley. "So when I run into situations where I feel like it's a facility, or a program need or staffing need that's really preventing what the next step it, I really want to work on it. Very special and warm thanks to the Leafstedts and others who have been supporting us financially to move us forward."
"The clubhouse is important because it shows a commitment from our University, and it shows a commitment from the community that we're serious about competing at a national level." said women's soccer head coach Mauricio Ingrassia.
"It's a place where we can bring recruits, and really show them what our culture is really about," added head softball coach Kim Sowder. "It's a big, big deal."
Additional branding and improvements to the clubhouse are continuing, but without true locker room facilities for those two teams, working to get the teams access to the completed building has been a priority for Long Beach State Athletics.
