Cross Country Heads To Riverside For The Highlander Invitational

Long Beach State will compete at the Highlander Invitational.

The Beach will be among nine teams competing in the men's race, while the women's team will be among 12 teams competing in Riverside.

ÂUCR Invitational
The men's and women's cross country team competed in their second meet of the season at the UCR Invitational hosted by University of California, Riverside. Senior Trevor Stangle and Sophomore Taylor Owens lead the team at the meet and were the top finishers for LBSU. Owens debuted her 2018 season in a big way, running a 6K PR of 21:22 to finish in 26th place, leading the women to a eighth place finish out of 21 competing schools.
Stangle crossed the line as the top finisher for the Beach in 18th place, solidifying a new PR of 24.48 in the 8K. Freshman Tyler Spencer followed closely behind with a collegiate PR of 25.07, finishing in 33rd place. Fellow freshman was the third finisher for the Beach in 61st place.
ÂLAST YEAR IN RIVERSIDE
The Long Beach State women's team finished in 11th  place with 142 points. Mikayla Florez was a top finisher for the Beach, crossing the finish line in a time of 17:47.8  in the 5K. On the men's side, LBSU placed in eighth among 13 teams with 163 points.George Martinez was the top finisher for the Beach with a 6K time of 18:00.0.
