FIRST RUN
The Long Beach State men's and women's cross country teams head to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 23). The men's 6,000-meter race is scheduled for a 7:15 a.m. (PT) start, while the women's 5K race will begin at 8:00 a.m. (PT). Both races will take place at Craig Ranch Regional Park in North Las Vegas.
VEGAS FIELD
The Beach will compete with Dixie State, Utah Valley and Cerritos College in both races, while UNLV, San Diego State and USC will run in the women's race.

LAST TIME OUT
The Beach men's and women's cross country teams are coming off from 22nd and 16th place finishes at last week's UC Riverside Invitational. The men's team scored 575 points among 32 teams in the men's 8,000-meter race, while the women collected 492 points among 29 teams in the women's 6K. Senior George Martinez led the way for the Beach, finishing in 89th with a time of 25:30.1, while redshirt junior Mikayla Florez crossed the finish line in 56th (21:28.0).
BEACH OPENS SEASON AT PEPPERDINE
LBSU opened the 2017 campaign at the Pepperdine Invitational on Sept. 1, at Alumni Park in Malibu. Redshirt junior Mikayla Florez finished in first-place (14:41.96) among 44 runners in the women's 4K, leading the Beach to five duel meet wins over USC, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, CSUN and CSU Bakersfield. Senior George Martinez finished in sixth with a 5K time of 16:01.83, as the Beach fell in its three duel meets versus CSUN, Pepperdine and UC Irvine.
FLOREZ NAMED BIG WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Junior Mikayla Florez was named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week (Aug. 28-Sept. 3), taking home the first weekly honors for cross country. Florez captured first-place at the season-opening Pepperdine Invitational with a 4K time of 14:41.96, helping LBSU to five dual meet wins against USC, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, CSUN and CSU Bakersfield. The Riverbank, Calif. native became the first women's runner from the Beach to win a meet since Rose Del Toro claimed the Aztec Invitational back in 2010.
BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIPS RETURN TO THE INLAND EMPIRE
After a one-year absence, the Big West Conference Championships return to Riverside, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 28. UC Riverside will serve as hosts for the first conference championship of the year at UCR's Agricultural Operations Course.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
The Beach returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, for the Highlander Invitational hosted by UC Riverside.
