LONG BEACH, Calif. - Back from its only out-of-state trip of the dual match season, Beach Tennis will make the quick trip down to Irvine to play Big West foe UC Irvine (1-8, 0-1 Big West) on Saturday at 11 a.m. LBSU (5-2, 2-1 Big West) will look to get back on the winning track after going 1-1 in Hawai'i last weekend.
LAST TIME OUT
• LBSU ventured out to Hawai'i for a pair of matches in Honolulu. The Beach played two 4-3 contests, winning over BYU and suffering a loss to Hawai'i.
• Senior Julie Gerard delivered the final singles victory in the BYU win, taking a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 decision at No. 2. • The loss to UH snapped a 30-match regular season winning streak for the 49ers against Big West opponents in a battle of teams tied for first place in the conference.
• Senior Maeva Razakasoa went 2-0 in singles last weekend, earning a key victory over top Hawai'i player Cindy Nguyen. The Big West Player of the Year award has gone to either Razakasoa (2014, '16) or Nguyen (2015) over the last three seasons.
ACROSS THE NET - UC IRVINE
• The Anteaters are 1-8 on the season, and are coming off a 5-2 loss in their Big West opener against Cal State Fullerton. UCI's lone victory came at Portland State, 4-3.
• UC Irvine owns a 28-31 all-time record against Long Beach State, but the 49ers have won nine straight against the Anteaters in regular season and Big West Tournament competition.
SENIORS SPECIAL
• The 2017 senior class will go down as one of the best in Long Beach State history, and is already the winningest. All four of this year's seniors—Laura Eales, Julie Gerard, Maeva Razakasoa and Hayley Thompson—are in the Top 15 for overall wins in program history, still with a final semester yet to play.
• Senior Maeva Razakasoa is a two-time and defending Big West Player of the Year. She is looking to claim the conference's top honor for the third time this season, which would put her one award shy of LBSU Hall of Famer Hannah Grady.
• Razakasoa entered the national singles rankings on Feb. 8, checking in at No. 124 in the country.
