Nunez, Lathos Leads LBSU At UC Riverside Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State seniors Emilio Nunez and Kevin Ramirez led the way for the men's team at the UC Riverside Invitational, finishing 10th and 11th places respectively on Saturday morning at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
LBSU collected 352 points to place 12th in the men's 8,000-meter race. Cal Poly captured the team title with 62 points, followed by Cal Poly Pomona (90) in second and Utah Valley (143) in third.
Nunez covere the 8K course in a time of 24:42.24, followed by Ramirez one second behind in 11th at 24:43.15.
Senior Cameron Ford crossed the finish line in 25th (25:16.73), followed by junior George Martinez in 43rd (25:59.92) and freshman Robert Daseler in 60th (27:10.91).
On the women's side, junior Alexandra Lathos was the top runner for the 49ers, covering the 6K course in a time of 23:25.57 (126th).
Freshmen Christie Nesbit and Julie Vargas placed 138th and 140th respectively as Nesbit posted a time of 23:57.20 and Vargas with a time of 24:07.76.
Arkanas won the women's team title with 33 points, followed by Cal Poly (65) in second and UC Santa Barbara (165) in fourth.
The 49ers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1, traveling to the California state capital for the Sacramento Capital Cross Challenge at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex hosted by Sacramento State.
