Long Beach, Calif. - Senior Nick Faust earned a pair of awards honoring his performance the past week, as the guard was named the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week, as well as the Big West Conference Player of the Week.
Faust was one of the top scorers in the nation last week, averaging 31 points per game while leading the Beach to a pair of crucial wins.
On Thursday, Faust scored a career-high 34 points to spark a 49er turnaround as the Beach erased a 15-point deficit on the way to an 80-70 overtime win over UC Santa Barbara.
Two nights later, Faust led Long Beach State to another signature win, putting up a double-double in the first half and finishing with 28 points and 14 rebounds as LBSU handed Hawai'i its first loss in conference 78-64, becoming just the second team in 16 games to win at Hawai'i.
On the weekend, Faust averaged 31 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading the Beach in both categories in both games the 49ers played. Faust also shot over 53% from the floor, and became the only player in the nation this season to have multiple games with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 3-pointers made.
The Lou Henson Award is given annually to the nation's top mid-major player, and as such the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week recognizes the top performance of the last week from student-athletes competing in Division I mid-major conferences.
Faust's Big West Conference Player of the Week award is the second of the season for the senior. He previously won the award after guiding the Beach through four games in six days, averaging 21.8 points and 5.8 rebounds through those four games as the Beach won at Colorado State and against New Mexico State.
