Men’s Basketball Signs Scoring Point Guard From Cal State Monterey Bay

Tengan has led the Otters in scoring in each of the last two seasons.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Chris Acker and his staff have brought in a high-scoring guard from Cal State Monterey Bay in Jaden Tengan, turning to a proven Division II standout to help supplement the program as the 2026-27 roster nears completion.

Tengan has starred for three seasons at Cal State Monterey Bay, including earning First Team All-CCAA honors last season after leading the Otters to a historic 11-game turnaround. Tengan led CSUMB at 17.3 points per game and shot 36.6 percent from three, making 74 3-pointers on the year while also adding 63 assists. Also showing an ability to get to the free throw line, Tengan made over 100 free throws last season and has shot over 88% from the stripe in his career, including shooting 90.9% as a junior in 2025 while leading the Otters in assists and again earning All-CCAA recognition.

He's accustomed to playing with pace and pushing tempo, which fits the identity we are building. He's smart, confident, and competes on every possession. What excites me most about Jaden is his mindset. He's excited to be challenged and understands where he must continue to grow his game to become an impact player at this level next season. That level of self-awareness is important as we continue building toward the type of team we expect to be next season."
Tengan is the second student-athlete to be added in the incoming class from the Division II level, adding another top scorer alongside elite shooter Brett Wright from Trivecca Nazarene. The Beach has now added eight additional players since the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
