Beach Places 10 on Big West Fall All-Academic Team

IRVINE, Calif. - The Long Beach State cross country and women's soccer teams placed 10 student-athletes on the 2015 Big West Fall All-Academic team the conference office announced on Thursday.
Women's soccer had four selections, including senior Melanie Fox, who picked up her third career Big West All-Academic honor. Juniors Mimi Akaogi and Celeste Dominguez were also recognized for the second year in a row, while senior Val Margerum received her first award.
Four student-athletes from the LBSU women's cross country team were also featured on the Big West All-Academic list. Juniors Ashley Carrera and Kathleen Dunne led the way with their second-straight all-academic selection. The duo was joined by sophomore Alexandra Lathos and junior Pauline Mandel.
Senior Tim Bergstrom and junior Sam Bautista represented the 49er men's cross country team. Bergstrom is a three-time Big West All-Academic selection and Bautista is a two-time honoree.
To be eligible for the Big West All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.
