Top-Seeded Beach Tennis Heads To Big West Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 40 Long Beach State women's tennis heads to Indian Wells, Calif. this weekend for the Big West Tournament. The Beach is in search of the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament.
THE TOURNAMENT FIELD
- Long Beach State is the top seed in the tournament after going 8-0 in the Big West this season. Its journey through the tournament begins on Friday at 8 a.m. The 49ers opponent is still to be determined as they will play the winner of Thursday's Cal Poly and UC Riverside match.
- The winner of LBSU's first match will face either the No. 4 seed Hawaii or the No. 5 seed CSUN.
- On the other side of the bracket UC Irvine is the No. 2 seed and will face No. 7 Cal State Fullerton. No. 3 UC Santa Barbara will face off against No. 6 UC Davis.
- Four teams enter the tournament in the ITA's national top-75, headlined by the Beach at No. 40. UC Santa Barbara checked in at No. 57 while UC Irvine was ranked No. 66 and Hawaii was No. 70.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY
- Similar to the regular season, Long Beach State has dominated the Big West Tournament. The Beach has won 10 of 11 championships at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, including the last four in a row.
- Last year, the Beach swept its first two matches before beating UC Irvine 4-2 in the championship match.
- This year, the Beach has dominated in Big West matches, combining to win all eight matches by a score of 48-8. Only two teams have scored two points in a match against LBSU.
INDIVIDUAL HISTORY IN 2015
- For just the third time in school history, two players have tallied 28 wins in the same season. Both Maeva Razakasoa and Karolina Rozenberg currently have 28 singles wins, which places them both in the top-5 for wins in a single season.
- Razakasoa has continued the success she had as the Big West Freshman of the Year when she tied the school record with 30 singles wins.
- Rozenberg is having her best season as a senior, tallying a career-high 28 singles wins in just 32 matches. Her 28-4 record currently ranks fourth in Beach history for single season winnings percentage.
- Rozenberg also have 25 doubles wins this season, which ranks third in school history.
- Julie Gerard has also raked in the wins this year with 27 singles wins. It is the first time in school history that three players have totaled 27 wins or more in the same season.
