Caffey, Samuels Earn All-Big West Honors

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State's Mike Caffey was selected First-Team All-Big West for the third time, capping off a tremendous career with the 49ers as the senior heads into his final postseason. Fellow senior David Samuels also garnered an honorable mention selection.
Senior Mike Caffey becomes just the fourth player in school history to garner three first-team all-conference selections, joining Ed Ratleff, Francois Wise and Larry Anderson.
Caffey led the 49ers in scoring, assists and steals in 2014-15, averaging 15.9 points per game while making 117 assists and 60 steals this season. The senior ranks sixth in career scoring at Long Beach State, as well as third in assists and fifth in steals.
Caffey was joined on the first team by Big West Player of the Year Corey Hawkins from UC Davis, UCSB's Alan Williams and Michael Bryson, UC Irvine's Will Davis II and UC Riverside's Taylor Johns.
David Samuels led the Big West in rebounding during conference play, averaging 9.5 rebounds per game. The senior finished with six double-doubles in league play, including three in a row to finish the season.
Long Beach State has now had a first-team All-Big West selection for 10 years in a row.
The pair kicks off the 2015 Big West Tournament Thursday, when the fourth-seeded 49ers face the fifth-seeded Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors at 2:30 p.m. in the Honda Center.
