Fullerton, Calif. - Long Beach State surrendered three home runs to San Diego State and was unable to recover as the 49ers fell 6-2 to San Diego State in the team's final game at the Judy Garman Classic in Fullerton.
San Diego State (14-8) pulled out in front courtesy of a two-run homer from Taylor Stewart, but the 49ers quickly bounced back with two of their own in the bottom of the second inning. Julia Lombardi singled to start the frame, and after a double by Haley Tobler, a two-run single by Lauren MacLeod evened the game at 2-2.
The Aztecs would slowly begin to pull away from Long Beach State (10-16) with more home runs however. Sydnee Cable put the Aztecs back on top with a solo home run in the fourth, and San Diego State extended their lead to 5-2 on a two-run blast by Lorena Bauer in the sixth.
An error led to a sixth run for the Aztecs, as Long Beach State dropped its sixth game in a row. Tobler finished with two hits to lead the Beach, while Christina Clermont struck out four in her five innings pitched Sunday.
Long Beach State finishes tournament play next week, traveling to San Diego State for five games beginning on Thursday, March 12 when the 49ers will face BYU and the host Aztecs.
